Characterisation of Dichelobacter nodosus on Misshapen and Damaged Ovine Feet: A Longitudinal Study of Four UK Sheep Flocks

چکیده
Dichelobacter nodosus is the causal agent of ovine footrot, a contagious disease welfare and economic concern worldwide. Damaged feet may be subclinical carriers D. covertly spread infection. Accordingly, we evaluated risk misshapen damaged on presence load in four commercial UK sheep flocks. Foot-level observations swabs (n = 972) were collected from ewes 85) over 12 months. On average, sampled three times. Feet inspected for scored (good/poor) hoof conformation traits (sole heel, wall, wall overgrowth). Swabs analysed nodosus, mixed models constructed. Poor present 92.5% foot-level observations. with poor sole heel more likely to have higher loads (? 0.19, 95% CI: 0.04–0.35) than those good conformation. Furthermore, positive overgrowth was associated 0.27, 0.01–0.52). aspects harbour are source Flock management should guided by reduce challenge.

Isolation and Characterisation of Dichelobacter Nodosus from Footrot Infected Sheep in Malaysia
Introduction Dichelobacter nodosus is the causative agent of severe footrot, a contagious debilitating disease which affects ruminants particularly sheep and goats. The disease is characterised by separation of the hom of the hoof from the underlying soft tissues resulting in lameness, loss of body condition and reduced wool production (Rood et al. 1996). The first case of footrot in Malaysia w...
متن کاملExperimental infection of cattle with ovine Dichelobacter nodosus isolates
BACKGROUND Dichelobacter nodosus is the main causative agent of ovine footrot, and there are strong indications that the bacterium can be transferred to cattle grazing on the same pasture as sheep. The aim of this study was to investigate if benign and virulent D. nodosus strains isolated from sheep can be transferred to the interdigital skin of cattle under experimental conditions. Further, we...
متن کاملMathematical modeling of ovine footrot in the UK: the effect of Dichelobacter nodosus and Fusobacterium necrophorum on the disease dynamics
Dichelobacter nodosus is a virulent, invasive, anaerobic bacterium that is believed to be the causative agent of ovine footrot, an infectious bacterial disease of sheep that causes lameness. Another anaerobe, Fusobacterium necrophorum, has been intimately linked with the disease occurrence and severity. Here we examine data from a longitudinal study of footrot on one UK farm, including quantita...

The present communication records the first determination of the prevalence of footrot in the unexpected situation of the tropical climate of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, two states in southern India where the maximum temperature rises to 42 degrees C. In total, 73 outbreaks of footrot in Nellore brown sheep were investigated in 11 districts of Andhra Pradesh and one district of Tamil Nadu du...
